Despite his woeful injury record and lack of first-team action, he looked far sharper and more lethal than Wayne Rooney has for most of his largely uninterrupted season.
Whilst salivating over their star striker’s blistering return, Liverpool fans couldn’t help but notice that Sturridge has now scored more domestic goals than Rooney this season – in spite of all his injuries.
