Eddie Alvarez could be in for the same fate as Jose Aldo if he throws this combo

Eagle-eyed.

Eddie Alvarez says he has been working on some new moves and Conor McGregor has no idea what’s coming.

Funnily, yet unsurprisingly, enough McGregor has been saying the same.

Every fighter will always claim to something fresh to bring to a bout. More often than not, however, they go back to learned techniques and their base instincts.

While we may see McGregor and Alvarez unveiling some new combos or focusing on an unexpected tactic – see the Dubliner’s leg kicks against Nate Diaz – they could go back to basics when the heat is on.

To that end, it is interesting to note this eagle-eyed spot from MMA analyst Bartek Stachura. The Pole has been studying fight footage of Alvarez and noted a punch combination that was also favoured by José Aldo.

It is the patented head-body that fighters have fallen back on for years. Aldo attempted to open up McGregor’s chin by landing a right-hand to his body. The Notorious was prepared and the result was a 13-second knock-out.

Alvarez has used that combo plenty of times and also favours the switch-up. Left to the head before the body-shot follow-up.

Swing high, go low.

Alvarez will have a lot more planned for McGregor but keep an eye out for this combo as the fight pace ramps up.
