This is painful to watch…
Let’s make this clear from the off: referees have a tough enough job on their hands without people sharing footage of their embarrassing on-field moments high and wide across the internet… which is exactly what we’re doing here. Sorry.
What follows took place towards the end of Oldham’s 1-1 draw at Bradford on Tuesday night.
Referee Christopher Sarginson added six minutes stoppage time on at the end of the game – partly down to the fact that it took him an eternity to book three players following a melee that he didn’t witness.
As footage below shows, the man in charge had a spot of bother trying to fathom out which players were in need of a yellow card – something which very quickly prompts chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing,” from the supporters in the Valley Parade stands.
In fairness, this wasn’t entirely the ref’s fault. Sarginson had been busy booking Abdelhakim Omrani when trouble broke out between players on the opposite side of the pitch. This meant that he was forced to rely entirely on information given to him from his fourth official and linesman.

Who’d be a referee, eh?
