It seems like a very long time ago when Conor McGregor was never going to fight Floyd Mayweather.
Initially, the crossover megafight was laughed off as one of those rumoured fantasy match-ups that would only materialise once hell froze over.
Then something unusual happened. Conor McGregor got big.
Like really big.
He graduated from MMA superstar to internationally renowned celebrity, hitting the mainstream as hard as a firm wheel-kick to the chin. Once the number of eyes and, in turn, money the Notorious was drawing spiraled into ludicrous proportions, Mayweather began taking note.

The only problem is, that as long as Mayweather entertains the idea of coming out of retirement for the diamond-encrusted panty night, he’s going to have to deal with the endless onslaught of questions about it. Speaking to ESPN, he sounds like he’s already fed up of all this MayMac talk.
“Conor McGregor fight, I don’t know if it’s going to happen. If it do, it do. If it don’t, it don’t.”
“They ask me about this fight… always. They’re always asking me about the fight. I’m over here in the UK and just Europe period, doing my tour, my undefeated tour, telling my story, telling the people where I come from, shaking the fans’ hands, signing autographs, that’s all I’m doing.”
However, despite complaining about being pestered about the potential match-up, he did drop one line that would ensure it will continue for the foreseeable future.
“If Conor McGregor really wants this fight to happen, stop blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. Sign the paper. Sign the paper. You said you were boss, just sign the paper and let’s make it happen.”
The never-ending story keeps on trucking.
