WATCH: Jose Mourinho confirms he will be PLAYING in today’s Grenfell charity game

Marcus Mumford: "How much are you worth?" Mourinho: "I don’t accept if it is not £1 more than Neymar."

It’s actually happening.

Jose Mourinho is a giant of the modern game, and a bona fide football legend for achieving all that he already has in his trophy-laden career. But all the kudos and respect (and of course bitter rival hatred) he has earned over the years has been due to his management abilities.

The Manchester United man’s playing career never really amounted to much. He played for Rio Ave, Belenenses, Sesimbra and Comércio e Indústria during the eighties but didn’t excel in any discernible way. That’s part of the reason why he decided to focus on coaching so early.

But on Friday evening, to the surprise of everyone, great sport Jose confirmed that he would actually be donning football boots and playing in the very worthwhile and important Game4Grenfell charity game at Loftus Road, to raise funds for those affected by the tragic events of the Grenfell tower fire.

Making the announcement to Marcus Mumford (because why not), Mourinho joked he was in the shape of his life, and when Mumford asked how much he was worth in the modern transfer market, the answer was pure Jose: “I don’t accept if it is not £1 more than Neymar.”

You can watch the game on Sky1 at 3pm, and donate to the cause at
