City had been held in the first half by the League Two side
Manchester City finally edged ahead of Newport County in their FA Cup fifth round tie at Rodney Parade.
Despite resting a few of their star players, a strong City side struggled to break down Newport in the opening half of the match and would have fallen behind but for an incredible save from Ederson inside 20 minutes.
The score goalless at half-time, the Premier League champions opened the scoring early in the second half through Leroy Sane.
The German was played in on the left, his powerful shot struck at Joe Day in the Newport goal, hitting the ‘keeper in his face before looping into the goal.
