So that’s what all the fuss is about.
Martin Odegaard was possibly the most coveted 16-year-old footballer in recent memory.
The Norwegian wonderkid was on the radar of every top European club before signing for Real Madrid in January 2015, and has since made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The majority of Odegaard’s time at the Spanish club has been spent in the B team, but judging by these clips it won’t be long before he’s playing for Madrid or someone else at the top level.
Odegaard helped Castilla record a 4-1 win over Amorebieta recently, and looked by far the best player on display.
It’s arguably unfair to make comparisons between the now 17-year-old and Lionel Messi, possibly the greatest footballer ever, but it’s difficult not to be reminded of Messi at that age when watching these clips.
If you don’t believe us, here’s Messi at a similar age:
No pressure, kid.
