Michael Bisping reveals he got an angry message from Conor McGregor before he beat Eddie Alvarez

Not impressed

“The hype is real.”

How long are they going to keep doubting this man?

Eddie Alvarez did not fancy Conor McGregor’s victory chances at UFC 205 and he was not alone.

Although McGregor was the betting favourite to take Alvarez’ UFC lightweight belt, many pundits and fighters were of the opinion that ‘The Underground King’ had too much power for the Dubliner.

Michael Bisping was one of those that did not believe McGregor could make UFC history.

He explained in great detail in a blog before the fight why Alvarez’s arsenal of weapons – including his cardio, wrestling, power, pressure and overall experience – would be too much for McGregor to overcome

”I wish Conor the best, and I hope he proves me wrong here. I hope he gets the job done. I know it’s not going to be popular for me to say this, and I’m probably going to get some backlash for it, but I think Eddie gets the job done, I really do.

”Don’t get me wrong, Conor is more than capable of knocking him out—he’s absolutely capable of winning this fight, but I just think Eddie will prove to be too much for him come Saturday night.”

But after witnessing McGregor pick Alvarez apart, Bisping was happy to put his hands up. He said:

“What can I say? I doubted Conor McGregor. I said Alvarez was going to get it done.

“Conor wasn’t happy with me. He sent me a message and gave me a hard time.

“Conor, I apologise!

“He lives up to the hype. He did an amazing job.”

Later on in the clip, Bisping sheds a little bit more light on the thrust of McGregor’s angry message before the fight.

”He messaged he and he said ‘you don’t know what you’re talking about Michael. I guarantee I’ll sleep him in one round.’

”Okay, it was two – but he was absolutely correct.”

Fair play to Bisping. McGregor won’t be targeting his middleweight belt… just yet.
