Swedish defender left baffled after being sent off for hat-trick celebration

The celebrations didn't last long

Maybe narcissism is bookable offence in the Swedish third tier.

Hat-tricks are a rare occurrence for most players, but the odds of a player achieving this feat are lengthened considerably when they play in a defensive role. So if you’re a defender who manages to bag three goals in one game, one would think that you deserve a little leeway when it comes to your celebration, right?

Well that’s utter bovine excrement, as Mehmed Dresevic found out in a recent match.

The defender, who plays for Swedish third-tier side Norrby, was left red-faced (and red-carded) after scored his third goal during his side’s 6-1 win over Tvaaker.

After seeing his third goal go sailing into the net, Dresevic wanted to mark the occasion with a celebration that was a little bit different. The Swede ran off the pitch, sat in an empty seat in the stands and began applauding himself as if he was a fan. However, when he returned to the pitch, the referee was quick to show him a yellow card for leaving the field. Since it was his second booking of the game, he was given his marching orders.

He pleaded his case with the official, but it was to no avail.
