Wayne Rooney’s goal at the Etihad on Monday evening helped Everton secure a point against Manchester City.
Booed by City fans throughout the first half for his 13-year association with Manchester United, Rooney fired Ronald Koeman’s side ahead ten minutes from the break. The 31-year-old clearly enjoyed his moment, celebrating the goal by looking in the direction of the home support and cupping his ears.
As has been pointed out by a number of people on Twitter, Rooney’s goal came at the same end to a goal he scored in United’s 3-2 Manchester derby victory in December 2012. City’s supporters – three in particular – reacted to both goals in pretty much the same way…

After the game, Rooney took to Twitter to express his disappointment that Everton couldn’t hold on for the three points. Despite playing with a man more than City for most of the game after Kyle Walker’s red card, Raheem Sterling equalised late in the second half.

Shortly after this tweet, Rooney also shared the image of himself celebrating his goal in front of the City fans.
