Dan Lydiate sat on the sidelines as Wales fell to a 15-6 defeat to Australia in their final Pool A game.
An eye injury suffered against Fiji meant he was forced to watch helplessly as his team failed to score a try against a 13-man Wallaby side.
But the Ospreys flanker was determined not to sit out the quarter-final against South Africa, going to some pretty extreme lengths to make himself available.
According to Wales coach Warren Gatland, Lydiate has had a metal plate inserted into his eye socket in order to be ready to face the Springboks.
Welsh fans will no doubt be glad to see him take up his regular role as blindside flanker on Saturday they look to reach their second consecutive World Cup semi-final.
Of course, we always knew Lydiate was made of strong stuff…
