The best of both worlds
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) have rescheduled Sunday’s World Matchplay darts to accommodate the Euro 2024 final which sees England take on Spain.
With former European Champions like Ross Smith and World Champions such as Rob Cross all in action at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Sunday, the PDC have issued a statement confirming that the matches have been brought forward.
The new schedule allows fans to watch the darts and the football as ticket holders will be invited to stay in the venue to watch the football on the big screen.
The PDC wrote: “As the England football team have made the final of UEFA Euro 2024, which will be played on Sunday evening, we want to give everyone the opportunity to get behind them and have decided to bring forward the timings for both sessions on Sunday July 14 at the Betfred World Matchplay to allow fans to enjoy the thrilling action from the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool before the football.
“Following the conclusion of the Evening Session, the UEFA Euro 2024 final will be shown live on the big screens in the arena to allow fans to get behind the England team from their seats without having to leave the venue – and in addition, the food and drink concessions from the Winter Gardens will remain open for the football.”
Doors will now open at 11am for the afternoon session with the first match between Smith and Josh Rock commencing at 12 noon. Meanwhile, the evening session will now begin with Cross vs Gian van Veen at 4.30pm with the final match expected to conclude by 8pm – just in time for kick off!
