Xabi Alonso’s classy Liverpool celebration shows he’s still a Red at heart

Legend

Kevin Beirne

There are few men whose name makes Liverpool fans weak at the knees quite like Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish maestro became a club legend during his time at Anfield for his dashing good looks exceptional passing abilities and general likeability.

Liverpool looked all but out of the Europa League on Thursday night when Marco Reus put Borussia Dortmund 3-1 up on the night and 4-2 up on aggregate (with three away goals) but goals from Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren pulled off one of the most unlikely comebacks in the club’s history.

Of course, Alonso himself was a part of the most unlikely comeback in Liverpool history when they won the 2005 Champions League in Istanbul (in case you hadn’t heard) and he was quick to pay tribute to the current crop of players and show the Anfield faithful he hand’t forgotten about them.
