Books have been and will be written on the unparalleled legacy that Steven Gerrard leaves behind on the pitch.
Journalists will honour the retiring Liverpool legend with flowery eulogies and verbose, fond farewells.
But for those who were fortunate enough to share a pitch with Gerrard, his impact can be summed up much more succinctly.
Every football fan knows what Gerrard has accomplished and his status as one of the greatest captains of all time does not need to be expressed in long-form, which is why former Reds teammate Xabi Alonso’s tribute is possibly the most fitting of the many that have already been paid to Liverpool’s famous number eight.

Alonso, who is now in Germany with Bayern Munich, spent five years on Merseyside with Gerrard, winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Super Cup and Community Shield during his time with Liverpool.
And while the Spaniard went down the sentimental route with his tribute, others weren’t in quite as emotional form.
Jamie Carragher unsurprisingly opted for a more humorous take on his fellow Scouser’s decision to finally walk away from football.

Sad day for football when a legendary figure like Stevie Gerrard retires from the game. The good news is more nights like this! #legend pic.twitter.com/JBPnPl5lWf

But, as funny as Carragher’s public tribute was, it still pales in comparison to this effort from former Liverpool physio Chris Morgan.
