Despite making a promising start to life at Manchester City, an injury to Benjamin Mendy’s knee is expected to keep the full-back out for a few months.
With this in mind, Mendy’s City teammates wanted to send a message of support to the French international ahead of their game with Stoke on Saturday afternoon. As is the done thing these days, this was how they did it…
Of course, this isn’t the first time City player have used a shirt tribute for an injured colleague. Only last season, a knee injury to Ilkay Gündogan prompted a similar tribute from City’s players. It’s not just City that have done this either. Manchester United players wore shirts with the names of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo printed on the back after the players each ruptured knee ligaments towards the end of last season.
As has been the case on all of the aforementioned occasions, plenty of football fans made it known that they felt the tribute to Mendy was slightly over the top, taking the time out of there day to make jokes like these…
