Chael Sonnen isn’t exactly Reuters, but he does have his ear to the ground in the MMA world.
The former UFC middleweight has been known to break a bit of news here and there in the MMA community and he does have some reputable sources in the media.
And on the latest episode of his “You’re Welcome” podcast, Sonnen revealed that his sources from Brazil claim to be uncertain about the chances of UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo making it to fight night against Conor McGregor next month.
“I am hearing things from people in Brazil, and in this sport where there is smoke there is fire,” Sonnen said. “Every single time – if there is smoke there is fire, and I am hearing things from people from Brazil…that they are not confident that Jose’s gonna make the walk. I want that fight to happen, I really do, and I don’t wanna start a rumour here…but that’s what I heard.”

Aldo withdrew from his initial match-up with McGregor at UFC 189 after sustaining a rib injury in training and there has been much talk of the Brazilian doing something similar in the run-up to UFC 194, with McGregor himself saying “I just don’t think he’ll be there.”
Luckily, the UFC have a stand-in in place should Aldo pull out of the fight as Frankie Edgar is currently training for a fight with Chad Mendes the night before McGregor vs. Aldo and The Answer would be a more than acceptable replacement.
But we want to see the realisation of McGregor-Aldo so our fingers are crossed that Chael is talking nonsense.
