This is the first footage of Martin Scorsese’s Silence, which receives its world premiere at the Vatican next week.
Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds all star in a film adapted from the novel by Shudaku Endo, with Scorsese himself having written the screenplay.
Plot’s it all about? Garfield and Driver play two Jesuit priests tasked with spreading Christianity in 17th century Japan, while searching for their mentor (played by Neeson). Once there, they become conflicted by the toll that their gospel is taking on the Japanese people.
