Throughout the Premier League era, Manchester United have developed a reputation for attacking at pace.
Things may have changed a little since the counterattacking brilliance of some of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squads, but there is still pace aplenty at Old Trafford, as we saw in the EFL Cup victory over West Ham on Wednesday night.
Luke Shaw returned to the fold for that game after missing Sunday’s draw against the same opponents, and impressed as Zlatan Ibrahimović bookended an Anthony Martial brace with early and late strikes of his own.
And before that win, the England left-back spoke to YouTuber Tobiias about which players he would describe as the fastest at the club.
“Marcus Rashford’s obviously the quickest,” he said, though he found it more of a challenge to complete the top three.
“I think Anthony [Martial] is more quick with the ball but I’d have to go with [Antonio] Valencia, and I’m putting myself in there as well.”
So that’s a Rashford-Valencia-Shaw top three. Now, we’re not saying Martial’s dominant performance on Wednesday was a response to being shunned by his teammate, but we can’t rule it out.
