Thomas Müller avoids questions from the press by using his passport as a phone

We can't decide whether this is madness or genius

Amazing.

We all know that Thomas Müller is something of a character. Very much railing against the Teutonic stereotype of straight-laced dourness and humorous efficiency, the 27-year-old is always game for a laugh.

When he’s not dancing about in traditional Bavarian lederhosen or impersonating fellow pros on the training pitch, he always likes to have a laugh with the press and give them something to write about.

That said, as with anyone, sometimes he’s just not in the mood. So what is a very high-profile Bayern Munich superstar to do when passing through an airport filling with a press pack eager for good copy?

But what if you’ve not got your phone handy? No problem! Simply pretend to make a call on your passport! Sensationally, that’s exactly what Müller ended up doing.

It’s actually genius, in a way. He knows he’s talking into a passport; the media knows he’s talking into a passport. But what do you do? Ask him to hang up his travel ID in order for a quick word? Game-changer…
