Manchester United fans are not used to missing their team play on the box each week – but they may miss out on their next FA Cup match.
Jose Mourinho’s side are currently set to face Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford on Saturday, January 28 at 3pm. The fact that it would be less than 48 hours after United’s League Cup semi-final second leg against Hull would make a Sunday fixture switch all the more likely.
BBC have dibs on the fixture. However, the broadcaster will not show the fourth round tie if Crystal Palace overcome Bolton in their third round replay.
If Sam Allardyce and his Palace side get past The Trotters, the BBC will instead broadcast Palace versus Manchester City as the Saturday 3pm kick-off.
The game will be preceded by Millwall’s clash with Watford at midday. A BBC release reads:
‘That game will be followed on BBC One at 4pm by either Crystal Palace or Bolton against Manchester City, or Manchester United v Wigan Athletic.
‘The third game will be confirmed after the FA Cup third-round replay between Palace and Bolton on 17 January.’
The announcement led to the usual full and meaningful agreement that one usually finds on social media.
