Yesterday Wayne Rooney cemented his place in the annals of football history.
With a stunning whipped free kick to draw his team level with Stoke he became Manchester United’s all-time top scorer with 250 goals for the club.
The 31-year-old drew level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals during the FA Cup tie with Jaap Stam’s Reading earlier this month.
And the Manchester United legend was on hand after the match to congratulate Rooney in person on breaking his long-standing record.
Huge honour to become leading goalscorer for @ManUtd. Thanks to @SirBobby for his kind words after the game 😀 pic.twitter.com/uNhazgqNbQ

The Stoke goal was a reminder of the brilliance that has kept Rooney at the very top of the game for more than a decade.
It was also a handy time for Nike to release their new Hypervenom WR250 so celeb the United skipper’s stunning achievement.
The boots are in the colours Rooney dons for club and country, red and white.
They also have a special logo that was created featuring a crown and his record breaking number, 250, on the tongue as well as WR10 on the side of the boot, referencing his squad number.
It’s clear Nike have been working on these for a while, and we can imagine it must have been a nervous wait at Nike HQ as Rooney’s goal-scoring form stuttered earlier this season and he fell down the United pecking order.
Lucky for them he’s found his scoring boots again.
