Borussia Dortmund cement their reputation as Trump opponents’ favourite football club

They sent him a strong message.

Borussia Dortmund have long had a reputation as an inclusive football club.

The Bundesliga outfit have kept ticket prices low, spoken out against racism and banned supporters for a homophobic banner.

But they’re not restricting their approach to events within Germany, taking aim at US President Donald Trump, a man whose acts since his inauguration suggest the opposite of inclusivity.

Following reports that Trump will push ahead with reports to set up a border wall between the United States and Mexico, Dortmund have made it clear that this is not something they are on board with.

And, of course, they have found a way to do it while reminding us all of their outstanding support.

Naturally, some of the response took the form of the traditional ‘stick to football’, including from people who steadfastly refuse to ‘stick to football’ themselves.

However, others were more than willing to put football first, reminding the club of their defeat at Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season.

President Trump signed an executive order yesterday to carry out the planned construction of a “large physical barrier” between the United States and Mexico.

The plan, according to the President, is to begin construction of the wall as soon as is realistically possible, potentially within a matter of months.
