Steven Gerrard likes Liverpool.
Who knew?
Of course impartiality is going to be non-existent among players like Gerrard who have spent almost the entirety of their professional careers with their boyhood clubs.
That’s why it wasn’t altogether surprising to see the former Reds captain let his emotions get the better of him when he watched Liverpool draw level against Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Chelsea took the lead via a stunning David Luiz free kick on Tuesday night, which will be discussed more in relation to the positioning and wall set-up of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and the Reds trailed for half an hour.

But the home side found an equaliser in the second half via midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and not even the awarding of a questionable penalty to the visitors in the final 15minutes could change the result as Mignolet saved and redeemed himself as spoils were shared.
But it was Wijnaldum’s header that got Gerrard, on punditry duty for BT Sport, off his seat and banging on the studio windows as though he was paying a touching tribute to Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate.

“Well I am a Liverpool fan, I’m guilty of that and it will never change,” Gerrard said of his reaction to the equaliser.
“I was pleased with Liverpool. I thought they started the game really well for twenty minutes and the goal was a big moment, it changed the game and it gave Chelsea confidence.
“In the second half Liverpool pushed on and did really well to get back in the game.”
