When was the last time you got so drunk you forgot what day it was? Of course, you’ve no idea – you were drunk at the time.
For Mark McLelland, that day was Sunday, or as he mistakenly thought, Monday. A landscaper and gardener, Mark sent a WhatsApp message to his boss Greig to ask if he could have the day off as he had ‘the runs’.
Unfortunately, Greig wasn’t falling for the oldest trick in the sickie book. Not only is that the excuse everyone gives, Mark wasn’t meant to be working that day anyway: it was Sunday.

Mark told The Sun:
“I was at a party on the Friday and I carried on drinking through to the Saturday and I had lost track of what day it was.
“I woke up thinking it was Monday and I couldn’t get out bed so the first thing that came to my mind was the runs.
“I never expected that reply but we usually get on well in work so we both saw the funny side to it.”
So there you are. If you’re pulling a sickie, don’t say you’ve got the runs, and make sure you’re actually working that day.
