This schoolkid was thoroughly unimpressed with Michael Carrick’s prank

Not even a hint of a smile

Simon Lloyd

At 35 years of age, Michael Carrick is rightly regarded as one of the wise old heads of Manchester United’s current crop of players.

He’s won the lot at Old Trafford, and his professional manner when speaking to reporters means he’s regularly the go-to guy when the media want a post-match word with one United’s playing staff.

But this isn’t to say that the midfielder doesn’t engage in a bit of arsing around once in a while.

On Wednesday, he was one of several United’s first team squad who took part in the Schools United event for the club’s charity arm, the Manchester United Foundation.

A short video clip shows Carrick lining up for a photograph alongside Phil Jones and several school children. While waiting for the photographs to be taken, a mischievous Carrick rolls out one of the oldest schoolboy pranks going – tapping the shoulder of one of the boys on the front row before looking away, pretending he had absolutely no part in it.

As a result, it seems the pupil standing next to Carrick is the culprit.

Not that they appeared to see the funny side…

At all…

Still, at least the boy on the front row (and Phil Jones) were able to crack smiles.

But not this guy…

Here’s the full clip in all it’s glory…
