‘ZLATS WHAT WEAK POOL ARE MISSING!!!’
John Aldridge knows a thing or 422 about scoring goals. The former Liverpool and Ireland striker made a lovely habit of finding the back of the net so his views on goal-scoring should not be taken lightly.
But still, Zlatan Ibrahimovic…

That’s right, Aldridge believes Liverpool could truly prosper if they had a ‘physical presence’ and a ‘frontline talisman’.
In his Sunday World column, Aldridge explains why 35-year-old Ibrahimovic has more to offer than the likes of Harry Kane, Diego Costa, Romelu Lukaku and anything Liverpool currently have to offer. He declares:
“Let’s dip into the hypothetical world and weigh up how Ibrahimovic would have fitted into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team… I believe he would compliment any forward line and while a player of his imposing presence would change Liverpool’s attacking impetus, I believe he would improve it.
“Against opponents who are intent on doing little more than frustrate Liverpool into submission and hit them on the break – as Swansea, Hull and Wolves have done in recent weeks – you sometimes need a slightly more disruptive force.”
Asked about signing on for another season with United, following their 2-0 win over Watford, Ibrahimovic told reporters: “The [contract extension] option is already fulfilled. But there’s nothing done yet.”
Were Ibrahimovic to sensationally move to Liverpool, it would be the first direct transfer between the clubs since 1964. Gabriel Heinze was keen to switch to Merseyside after a trophy-winning stint with United but Alex Ferguson implicitly blocked the deal.
Can’t imagine Jose Mourinho would ‘okay’ this.
