West Ham chairman David Gold has perfect response to pisstaking message featuring Drake

This is brilliant. Although believe it or not, some people are suggesting it's racist?!

Nooruddean Choudry

For once, well played.

West Ham joint chairman David Gold hasn’t always shown himself to be especially social media savvy in the past. In fact he has embarrassed himself on Twitter on more than one occasion – much to the amusement to both Hammers fans and rival supporters.

First of all, there’s the somewhat quaint habit he’s got of ending EVERY tweet with ‘dg’, as if he’s signing off a letter or authorising a memo; then there’s the time he proudly announced the signing of Pedro Obiang…using an image of Angelo Ogbonna (who funnily enough West Ham later signed).

And who can forget the time he was duped into wishing a young West Ham fan good luck at school – when it was in fact a mischievous image of Will McKenzie from The Inbetweeners.

Well anyone who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks is evidently mistaken, as it seems Gold has learned from his previous errors – particularly the last two.

A pisstaking follower decided to have some more fun at the Chairman’s expense by repeating the ‘first day at school’ trick using an photoshop of RnB star Drake with Wales and Nottingham Forest midfielder David Vaughan…

Except this time Gold had the perfect response. Harking back to his infamous Obiang/Ogbonna blunder, the 80-year-old replied thusly:

For once, the reaction was one of cap doffing appreciation…

Although bizarrely – and perhaps misunderstanding the tweet – some suggested it was racist?! Far from it – the only person Gold was mocking was himself…
