We thought Mitch Rose’s protest against a penalty decision would be the strangest we’d see this weekend. We were wrong.
Rose, the brother of England defender Danny, appeared to slap a red card out of the referee’s hand as his Newport County side suffered a late defeat to Cambridge United.
But that is nothing compared to this response, from the Vietnamese top flight match between Hồ Chà Minh City F.C. and Long An F.C.
With the scores locked at 2-2, Hồ Chà Minh were awarded what the visitors saw as a soft penalty when Rod Dyachenko went down under an apparent push from Phạm Hoà ng Lâm.
Rather than attempting to hope justice prevailed by stopping the ensuing spot-kick, Long An goalkeeper Nguyá»…n Minh Nhá»±t decided to turn his back on taker VÃctor Ormazábal, allowing the Argentine to complete his hat-trick with no fuss whatsoever.
But Long An weren’t done there.
As you can see in the video below, they simply stopped playing, allowing the hosts to run through on goal and pad the scoreline through Nguyễn Tuấn Anh and Dyachenko.
It’s one of the stranger things we’ve ever seen on a football pitch, and that’s saying something.
