Some reports on Tuesday morning would lead you to believe that Amir Khan is set to fight Manny Pacquiao in Britain this May.
Suggestions had been made that a verbal agreement between the veterans was in place to have them face off with one another either in Khan’s hometown stadium, Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium, or the Manchester Arena.
The date was reportedly set for May 20 but both fighters’ camps have moved quickly to pour cold water on the gun-jumping reports by announcing that the agreement was still some way off.
A representative from Khan’s team contacted the Daily Telegraph to announce that “there was nothing to report for now” while Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, has referred to the reports as “total and complete bullshit.”
Just last week Pacquiao published a poll on Twitter, where he wanted his followers to vote for his next opponent from a list of four potential candidates and Khan was the runaway winner, with almost half the vote.

But there is no deal in place just yet, although it sounds like that is the direction in which both men are leaning.
Khan has not fought since being knocked out by Canelo Alvarez at middleweight last May while Pacquiao has put together back-to-back wins over Timothy Bradley and Jesse Vargas since dropping a unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather in 2015.
