Chelsea plot last minute deal to snap up Pedro

Simon Lloyd

Chelsea appear to be making an eleventh-hour attempt to take Pedro from Barcelona, after his move to Manchester United seemed all but certain.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are happy to match whatever United offer for Pedro as Jose Mourinho looks to inject some more attacking flair into his squad. Owner Roman Abramovic has reportedly backed the bid and is personally keen on the player coming to Stamford Bridge.

News of the Spanish international potentially moving to Chelsea will come as a blow to many Manchester United supporters who have been under the impression that the deal to take him to Old Trafford was in its final stages.

Whereas they still remain in a good position for the player, a failure to agree a fee with Barca could have allowed the reigning Premier League champions to muscle in.

One team that do not appear to be pursuing Pedro now are Manchester City, who only see it as a possibility if their move for Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne does not materialise.
