Gareth Bale question results in absolutely terrible quiz show answer on Tipping Point

What is it with footballers and terrible answers on daytime quiz shows?

What is it with footballers and terrible answers on daytime quiz shows?

Back in February, a contestant on ITV show Tipping Point was asked by host Ben Shepard:

“Between 1991 and 1999, Peter Schmeichel was the goalkeeper for which English football club?”

The answer is, of course Manchester United. An easy one for football fans, but not so easy if you’re not a fan of the beautiful game.

However, the answer is definitely not Germany. Germany is a country in Europe, and not an English football club.

Even big Pete was perplexed by her answer, which, without wishing to be too harsh, has to be one of the worst ever on the show.

Until now.

Another contestant has been tripped up with a question about footballers.

This time, Shepard asked:

“Gareth Bale plays international football for which country in the United Kingdom?”

Again, an easy one for football fans. Bale is from Cardiff and plays for Wales.

Yet…

The Real Madrid forward definitely doesn’t play international football for Newcastle, as Newcastle is a city in the north of England, and not a country.

It seems like BBC show Pointless gets all the football fans.
