Arsenal fans can’t quite believe the timing of pre-season opponent announcement

Wound is still a tad fresh

Arsenal supporters are sick of the sight of Bayern Munich.

The Gunners are still reeling after their third consecutive 5-1 defeat to the Bundesliga giants, with their 10-2 aggregate humiliation in this season’s Champions League intensifying cries for Arsene Wenger to leave the club.

Arsenal’s comprehensive victory over Lincoln City in the FA Cup at the weekend was to be expected so didn’t do all that much in alleviating the pressure on Wenger.

The most recent capitulation at the hands of Bayern was the nadir of an already underwhelming season for Arsenal so one can excuse fans for hoping that they don’t cross paths with Carlo Ancelotti’s side for some time.

Well those fans are shit out of luck as Arsenal wasted no time in announcing that they’re set to face Bayern in a pre-season friendly in China on July 19.

“It will be very special for our Chinese fans to see a game of this stature,” Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said.

“We have a fantastic following in China and the two games we are playing there this summer will be an exciting part of our build up for the new season.”

Gazidis is clearly pumped about the game.

But the same can’t really be said for the club’s supporters, who are anticipating another drubbing.
