Aside from international football matches, the first international break of the calendar year is a time when transfer rumours start picking up speed.
Sure enough, that’s exactly what appears to be happening with a certain Antoine Griezmann.
The Manchester Evening News report that Manchester United are more than happy to go and splash out another enormous fee on a French international, claiming that sources close to the Atletico Madrid player believe a deal is on the brink of completion. Not bad going saying the transfer window doesn’t open for another three-and-a-half months.
The fee could top the one United forked out for Paul Pogba, with Atleti said to have accepted the fact that they’ll be powerless to stop him should United trigger his 100m Euro buyout clause.
The MEN also report that Jose Mourinho intends to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a further year despite rumours that he may be moving to Major League Soccer. They add that the United boss sees Griezmann as a signing that will take some of the scoring burden off their Swedish striker, helping the club to mount a serious title push for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson guided them to the 2013 title.
