A 230-year-old secret stash of whiskey has been found beneath the Jameson distillery

Now that's what you call a mature whiskey

A stash of centuries-old whiskey has been found beneath the foundations of the Jameson distillery in Dublin.

In what surely must be the alcoholic find of the century, Ireland’s most famous whiskey makers have happened upon a single barrel of what could well be one of the oldest batches of whiskey ever known.

Jameson have been distilling whiskey since 1780, and while the company was founded by a Scotsman (shh, no one needs to know), the whiskey is an international favourite.

However, during a renovation of the Bow Street distillery, the guys at Jameson made a startling discovery: a barrel of whiskey distilled by the very John Jameson whose name is stamped on every bottle made and sold.

Check out the video of the amazing find here:

After being in the barrel for more than two centuries, there’s not a lot of the whiskey left – in fact, there’s just a single glass remaining.

But holy macaroni, can you even imagine what that whiskey would taste like? It might be a little on the strong side, perhaps, but it’d be like supping pure nectar from a goblet of dreams.

Since there’s just the one glass left, you’d have to hot-foot it over to the Jameson Distillery in Dublin to try it, but even if you don’t get to sample it (for whatever reason) there’s a whole world of whiskey that you can still explore there.
