Get ready for your jaw to hit the floor.
In recent years, the League of Ireland has been absolutely valuable to the development of some notable Premier League footballers. Seamus Coleman, James McClean, David Meyler, Shane Long and many others have all started their professional careers in Ireland, but the league is making international headlines this week for another reason.
If you haven’t seen Conan Byrne’s scorcher for St Patrick’s Athletic against Bohemians , get ready for your jaw to hit the floor.
St Patrick’s Athletic ran out 4-0 winners over Bohemians in Dalymount Park on Friday night and there was no question over which one of the four goals was the best.
That accolade was claimed by Conan Byrne’s stellar effort from inside his own half.
After some sloppy passes that missed their mark, the ball fell to the 31-year-old in midfield. Seeing the goalkeeper off his line, Byrne decided to go for goal. He rocketed the ball first-time towards the opposition goal and it went sailing over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Not a bad way to secure your 100th league goal. He went on to add his 101st later in the game, with Christy Fagan and Kurtis Byrne completing the scoring.
