Just 12% of British men would consider a pint of beer their first choice of drink, according to a new survey.
It turns out this generation is more prone to counting calories than we thought, with nearly half of those polled preferring a glass of red wine or a spirit and mixer.
The survey, of 2,949 British men aged over 30, was carried out by VoucherCodesPro. It also saw bottled cider (15%) and cocktails (13%) preferred to the humble pint.
So, what’s the reason for the change. Well, it boils down to a couple of things.
Some (22%) are concerned by the calories in beer, others (16%) worry it makes them feel bloated, while 6% cited the price increase.
Still, seeing as nearly half those concerned by the price wouldn’t be willing to pay more than £2 for a pint, we imagine they’ll stick with other options for a while longer.
