Manchester United legend Paul Scholes reckons Raheem Sterling would be making a mistake if he leaves Liverpool this summer.
Sterling is currently in a stand-off with the Reds, having turned down a contract worth a reported £100,000-a-week while claiming money is far from the most important factor when it comes to determining his future.
For a man with such strong links to Liverpool’s huge rivals, Scholes could be forgiven for persuading Raheem to leave Anfield as quickly as possible, but he takes the opposite stance in his Independent column today.
“They have elevated him (Sterling) from the junior sides and he has a manager who has built a team around him. He plays every week. What more do you need at that age?” writes Scholes.
Scholes added that Sterling doesn’t score enough goals in his opinion and that he doesn’t realise how much of a good thing he’s on to be playing regularly for such a big team at such a young age.
That said, we can’t help but feel there was a slight dig in LIverpool’s direction when he said of Sterling’s situation: “You have to be careful when you time a move to one of the biggest clubs.”
