Louis van Gaal has identified his new striker – and he won’t cost a thing

Simon Lloyd

After getting linked with every attacking player under the sun, perhaps Manchester United won’t be splashing anymore cash, after all.

Many have called for Louis van Gaal to spend big in a bid to help out misfiring Wayne Rooney but judging by his comments ahead of the game against FC Brugge, the United boss appears to have found a way around his problem.

Unthinkable a year ago, but Marouane Fellaini has proven to be a useful squad member for Louis van Gaal. Now it appears that the Belgian will be featuring as a make-shift attacking option for United.

Fellaini, to his credit, was often used in a similar role with relative success by David Moyes at Everton, though whether the Old Trafford faithful are prepared to watch a lot of route one football remains to be seen.

One thing’s for sure – his size and physique mean that he will give United a different dimension to many other teams they will face over the course of the season.

How he gets on remains to be seen, but if given the game time, it’s hard to see him not chalking up more goals than a certain Mr. Falcao did last season.
