Universal must be pretty happy with how The Mummy has turned out, because they’ve just announced major plans for the rest of their upcoming monster movies.
It is being reported that they’ve called their series the Dark Universe, with Tom Cruise taking front-and-centre for the first “proper” outing, in The Mummy which is due out pretty soon.
Spoilers if you’ve been away from the internet for the past few weeks, but we’ve known for a while now the Russell Crowe is in The Mummy playing Dr. Henry Jekyll, which should see him either with a lot of make-up or a lot of CGI once his BFF Mr. Hyde makes an appearance.
On Monday, Universal announced the rest of their Dark Universe slate, which includes Johnny Depp as Invisible Man, and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s Monster.
There is no word yet whether or not recent previous attempts to jump-start the Universal Monster Universe will still be included, which so far feature Benicio Del Toro as The Wolfman and Luke Evans as Dracula (from Dracula Untold).

If you do visit www.welcometoprodigium.com, you’ll hear Crowe as Jekyll, talking about fighting evil and you’ll see a few new snippets from The Mummy.
If everything goes according to plan, you’ll soon be hearing about who will be playing Frankenstein’s Wife, The Creature From The Black Lagoon and, unless it turns out to be Cruise himself and nobody has told us, monster-hunter Van Helsing.
