Manchester United delete tweet after Henrikh Mkhitaryan is called out for weight gain

Bit of a belly

Darragh Murphy

Henrikh Mkhitaryan maybe should have sucked his gut in ever so slightly here.

The fruits of the Manchester United star’s debut Premier League season seem to be showing in the form of a belly that’s slightly more bloated than you might remember from May.

Mkhitaryan has been back in his native Armenia over the summer and he had every right to have enjoyed that extra pint or go up for seconds after dinner because he didn’t have Jose Mourinho checking in on his physique on a daily basis.

The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker struggled to convince his manager of his fitness during the early stages of last season and Mourinho certainly won’t welcome the sight of a more portly Mkhitaryan boarding the plane for the United States for their pre-season tour.

It’s safe to say that Mkhitaryan has put on a pound or two in the summer months and, to be fair to him, pre-season hasn’t started yet so he’ll have more than enough time to run off that excess body fat.

The below photograph was posted on United’s Twitter page on Thursday afternoon but once fans got a glimpse of the red stretched across the 28-year-old’s midriff, they began replying in their droves.

The tweet was deleted less than an hour after it went public but not before we managed to secure a screenshot.

And, unfortunately for Mkhitaryan, the replies are all still online but perhaps he can use them as motivation to trim down a bit.
