That goal from Ronaldo though.
While some football fans might have been tempted by the prospect of watching Neymar’s goalscoring debut for PSG, his former club met Real Madrid in the first-leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
After a very quiet first-half, the deadlock was broken when Gerard Pique turned the ball into his own net to give the La Liga champions the lead. In doing so, Pique became the first Barcelona player to score an own goal in El Clasico in the 21st century in all competitions.
Lionel Messi’s controversial penalty drew the game level before an absolute peach from Cristiano Ronaldo restored Real Madrid’s lead.

After being booked for taking off his shirt in celebration, the Ballon d’Or winner then received his second yellow moments later after the referee decided that the former Manchester United attacker had dived in the box under pressure from Samuel Umtiti.
Given how Luis Suarez won the penalty which Barcelona scored from, some people felt that Ronaldo was harshly treated.

Suarez was a dive. Ronaldo wasn't. Neither should have been a penalty.

Ronaldo wrong to push ref. But ridiculous he's sent off when yet another Suarez dive goes unpunished #RMAFCB

Cristiano sent off. Oh wow. Pushed the referee too. Accused of diving. Ironic after the Suarez call.

That El Classico was a wicked game. I don't normally defend Ronaldo but that wasn't a dive. Suarez definitely dived (as usual).

Roanldo gets sent off for 'diving', but Suárez is rewarded a penalty for his pathetic dive? Fantastic refereeing to start to the season.

Despite being down to ten men, Real Madrid extended their advantage when Marco Asensio scored a blistering breakaway goal to give Zidane’s side a commanding lead as they head into the return match.

The second-half of football was absolutely hectic and you couldn’t take your eyes off, which is ironic given Real Madrid’s choice of jersey.
After launching their new third kit, Real Madrid decided to mark the occasion by wearing it for the first time against their bitter rivals.
This being said, plenty of people felt that their famous white kit would have been a far better option to wear against a team who wear blue and burgundy.
If you found it distracting while watching on TV, you’re not the only one.

How's this Barcelona v Real Madrid match not a clash of colours?!? #ElClasico pic.twitter.com/stIgUMaNK5

Why are Real Madrid wearing blue against Barcelona? Ridiculous and unnecessary colour clash. #ElClasico
— Ross Zambra (@TheKingOfPing) August 13, 2017
Brilliant decision by whoever came up with the idea that Barcelona and Real Madrid should both wear blue kits for tonight’s game…?

From a wide angle this game is unwatchable … why Real Madrid are not playing in white is beyond me… stupid kit clash.

The second-leg at the Santiago Bernabéu takes place on Wednesday while Zidane’s men begin their league campaign away to Deportivo La Coruna. Barcelona start their season at home to Real Betis.
