“There are times when unfortunate errors occur.”
Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren weren’t the only people that made errors as Liverpool met Newcastle at St James’ Park because the BBC has apologised after an “unfortunate error” appeared on their subtitles during Match Of The Day 2.
During the highlights, commentator Guy Mowbray was talking about Daniel Sturridge’s good strike record against Newcastle.
He said: “Sturridge has scored in all four of his previous Premier League starts at Newcastle. For the Reds against the team in black and white, he boasts five goals in five appearances.
Apparently, the software that creates these subtitles had misunderstood the word “comma” that came after ‘black and white.’
Journalist Paul Brown spotted the mistake and tweeted a screengrab of the phrase from Sunday night’s show.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Our live subtitling service is normally very accurate and makes our content much more accessible, but there are times when unfortunate errors occur. On this occasion, the error was spotted and corrected immediately.”
