Sit back and enjoy Glenn Hoddle’s description of Harry Kane’s World Cup qualification-clinching goal

What the hell is he on about?

Never. In. Doubt.

Gareth Southgate’s England have secured their place at next summer’s World Cup, roaring into the finals with a convincing 1-0 hammering of Slovenia at Wembley.

The decisive moment came courtesy of Harry ‘didn’t score a goal in August’ Kane, who was able to direct a Kyle Walker cross beyond Jan Oblak and in stoppage time.

The goal was met with a deafening roar from the 35%-full Wembley Stadium – the kind of cheer only usually reserved for a paper plane landing on the pitch after being thrown from the nosebleed seats in the upper tiers.

It was a glorious moment: one that could only be improved by the commentary of Glenn Hoddle. On duty for ITV Sport, the former England boss didn’t disappoint with his description of the winning goal…

“Great movement from Kane,” Hoddle begins. “Just half a touch,  that’s all that’s needed,” he continues.

“It’s a really good centre forward goal. I said he didn’t have his shooting boots on, well he had his little toe boot on.”

God Save the Queen. And God Save Harry Kane’s little toe boot for sending England a step closer to a disappointingly premature exit from the Russian World Cup.
