Romelu Lukaku’s gesture at the end of United match was the epitome of class

A brilliant show of sportsmanship

A drab affair.

That’s the only way to describe Manchester United’s win over Benfica.

But it doesn’t really matter, does it? Yes, Manchester United fans would have loved to see a comprehensive win but a 1-0 win away in Europe is never a bad thing.

And that’s what happened, Marcus Rashford scored after a bit of a howler from Benfica’s goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

The Benfica shot-stopper is only 18-years-old and broke Iker Casillas’s record as the youngest goalkeeper to ever play in the Champions League but it went so wrong for him after the mistake.

After Rashford whipped the cross in, Svilar caught the ball but over the line and a goal was awarded. A mistake that cost Benfica a point.

No doubt devastated, and on a big stage against one of the most famous teams in world football the confidence of the young keeper was probably on the floor after the full time whistle but Romelu Lukaku made sure to empathise with the goalkeeper.

The Belgian made sure to go up to his fellow countryman to console him after the loss and it didn’t go unnoticed:
