Following the earlier surprise unveiling of the new iPad Pro, Apple finally showed off their latest iPhone – the 6S.
Their latest handset comes with, as predicted, a pressure sensitive screen which enables a feature that Apple have named ‘3D touch’. By pressing down on the iPhone’s screen, new menus can be called up and shortcuts can be activated – a completely new method of interacting with the phone.
Apple appears to have adopted two new phrases to describe how to use the all new 3D Touch – peek and pop.
‘Peek’ appears to be all about pressing on icons and apps in order to pull up shortcuts. For example, pressing down on the camera icon gives you the option to take a selfie instantly. Similarly, pressing down on the Facebook icon allows you to quickly post a new status or update a profile picture.
‘Pop’, on the other hand, allows you to pull up overlays of different media without them taking over the screen. A quick swipe away and you’re back where you started.
For the first time since 2011, there’s an increase in the iPhone’s mega-pixel count, now up to 12 thanks to the addition of a new rear camera. A new 5 mega-pixel front camera has also been installed.
Another new feature means that you’ll be taking plenty of video footage with the new iPhone. Live Photos automatically shoots a second and a half of footage either side of a photo. While the feature is default with the new handset, it’s thought it can be turned off.
