Kevin de Bruyne’s celebration after scoring against Spurs got people talking

Paul Moore

Cracking finish.

Do we give Manchester City the league now? To be honest, heading into the game against Spurs, we all knew that Pep Guardiola’s men were destined to win the season’s Premier League but the 4-1 demolition of Tottenham at the Etihad just confirmed that.

Done, dusted and de Bruyne.

With a favourable tie against Basel to come in the Champions League, it’s going to be a very happy Christmas for the blue half of Manchester and their superb Belgian playmaker is a large reason why.

Prior to the game against Spurs, City were dealt a blow after David Silva was ruled out of contention because of personal reasons. Truth be told, City didn’t need him.

After taking the lead through Gundogan’s header,  de Bruyne doubled their advantage on 70 minutes with an absolutely wonderful goal.

During his celebration, plenty of people had various theories about why the Belgian made the ‘2-1’ gesture. Some people felt that it was a slight dig at the growing points gap between City and Spurs. Other football fans believed that de Bruyne was having a pop at Manchester United – City beat them 1-2 at Old Trafford.

The truth of the matter appears to be that De Bruyne was paying tribute to Silva by making his shirt number, 21. A classy move on de Bruyne’s part.

In fact, Man City’s Twitter account shared a similar image of the squad.

If City continue this type of form into 2018, who knows what they could do?
