Alan Pardew’s appointment as West Bromwich Albion manager has not had the desired effect.
Pardew replaced the sacked Tony Pulis at the end of November, and has not been able to provide the “new manager bounce” a club hopes for when changing coaches mid-season. It turns out, appointing a manager who has won just six Premier League games in the last two years (44 games) probably wasn’t the wisest option for a club battling relegation, as West Brom are yet to win under Pardew.
The midlands club winless run extended to 20 league games on Tuesday night – the fourth-longest winless streak of any Premier League club in history – when they fell to a late loss at the London Stadium.
After James McClean opened the scoring for West Brom in the first-half, Andy Carroll scored twice for West Ham – the second a winner in the 94th minute – to give David Moyes’ side a 2-1 victory. Pardew’s team are in 19th place after the defeat, four points from safety and only ahead of Swansea on goal difference.
Some issues at the Hawthorns pre-date the arrival of Pardew. The club haven’t won a league game in 20 attempts, they’ve won just once away from home in their last 20 away games and have scored just eight goals in their last 13 games away from home. They could also lose Jonny Evans, the club’s captain, in the transfer window. While the team’s preparations for the West Ham match weren’t helped by the short turnaround between fixtures. Pardew’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, while the Hammers had six days to prepare for Tuesday’s fixture.
However, there’s no denying that their new manager has not had a positive effect on results. Under Pardew, West Brom have scored four goals and have picked up just four points in eight matches.
Following the defeat to West Ham, Many Baggies’ fans, and football fans, predicted that Pardew might not even see out the rest of the season, and could be sacked as the club face a relegation fight for the rest of the season.
So many Albion fans turned on Pulis the moment he was appointed, but look at his record when he came in. With a much worse squad than this, he dragged us out of it. He won games, and he didn’t bring in loads of new players to do it. So far, Pardew has been a disaster. #wba

Surely if we beat West brom on Saturday, and Pardew doesn't get the right players this window, surely that's the sack for him? #wba

When they said that drawing against the big clubs you’d always have a chance, #wba are forgetting you need to beat all the crap clubs around you. Absolutely pathetic excuse. Had enough now and get rid of them all starting with Pardew. Just get out of my club.

Embarrassment of the Midlands!! The fickle lot thought Pulis was the problem, they'll be calling for Pardew to be sacked next 😂😂 #wba

Pardew has now lost to West Ham, Swansea and Stoke. We're doomed.
