The actor has previously been accused of sexually abusive conduct.
Casey Affleck will not present an award at this year’s Oscar ceremony. Last year, Affleck won the Best Actor award for his performance in Manchester by The Sea and as is the norm, he was expected to present this year’s award for Best Actress.
A rep for the actor confirmed his decision to not attend the ceremony.
Deadline have reported that the actor: “did not want to become a distraction from the focus that should be on the performances of the actresses in the category and that is why he made the proactive move.”
There have been accusations of sexually abusive conduct in Affleck’s part from the set of 2010 movie I’m Still Here, which he directed. The star of Good Will Hunting and Gone Baby Gone previously settled lawsuits with producer Amanda White and director of photography Magdalena Gorka prior to the release of the film, which starred Joaquin Phoenix.
