He celebrated his 113th birthday last month.
Francisco Núñez Olivera, the oldest man in the world, passed away at his home in his hometown of Bienvenida, approximately 120km north of Seville in Spain, on Monday.
According to El Periodico, Olivera died in the company of his daughter, Antonia and was due to be buried on Tuesday.
The mayor of the town, Antonio Carmona, said that his Olivera’s death was “a pity for the entire village and the whole world.”
Olivera became the oldest man in the world following the death of Israeli native Yisrael Kristal at the age of 113 and 330 days in August 2017, although an Indonesian man known as Sodimedjo, who claimed the be the oldest man in the world, died at a reported age of 146 last year.
According to the Gerontology Research Group, the world’s oldest man is now Masazou Nonaka, from Japan, who was born on 25 July 1905 and is currently 112 years old.
The world’s oldest living person, according to the same source, is Japanese woman Nabi Tajima, who was born in 1900 and is due to turn 118 on 4 August this year.
