Powell has been in impressive form for Wigan so far this season, helping them to the top of League One and to an FA Cup fifth-round tie with Manchester City, scoring 11 goals in 28 appearances.
The 23-year-old played for Manchester United between 2012 and 2016, joining them after excelling for Crewe Alexandra. Powell scored on his debut against Wigan at Old Trafford, but only made eight more appearances over the next four years, before being released when his contract expired.
He has, however, turned his career around at Wigan, and Brighton have had a £3m bid for him rejected. It remains to be seen if the Premier League club return with a third bid for the midfielder before the window closes on Wednesday night. Powell’s contact with Wigan expires at the end of next season.
